John J. Irving

John J. Irving is the CEO and Managing Partner of The Irving Law Firm, serving individuals and families in Manassas, Arlington, and throughout Northern Virginia. As the firm’s founder, he helps lead a team built around clear communication, practical guidance, and steady support when clients are dealing with high-stakes legal problems.
Before entering private practice, John built a foundation in investigations and public service. After earning his degree in criminal justice, he worked as a fraud investigator for the City of New York and later joined the Prince William County Police Department. That early experience continues to shape how he approaches cases, especially matters where procedure, evidence, and credibility play a central role.
John earned his Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law, and he has been admitted to practice in Virginia since 2005. His work has included criminal defense matters, family law concerns, and civil issues such as estate planning and personal injury, giving him a broad view of how legal decisions can impact a person’s future well beyond the courtroom.
In addition to client work and firm leadership, John contributes to the firm’s educational resources, including Spanish-language content intended to help people understand Virginia legal issues and what to expect in the process. He is also active in the community through church involvement, youth sports coaching, and support of local teams and school programs.
John’s goal is straightforward: help clients feel informed, respected, and prepared to make good decisions. That approach fits the firm’s people-first focus on honesty, compassion, and real solutions.
